About the Project

The ME-commercer project was created in response to some of Europe’s most pressing challenges – youth unemployment, economic disparity across regions, and the need for open and innovative training systems that boost both people and the economy. With a strong emphasis on local development through global thinking, the project aimed to strengthen the competitiveness of micro-enterprises by enhancing their visibility, sustainability, and access to global markets through digital commerce. Rooted in the idea of a “glocal” approach – acting locally while thinking globally – the project focused on leveraging the untapped potential of local traditions and human capital as key drivers for economic growth. E-commerce was identified as a pivotal tool in revitalising peripheral regions, offering new opportunities for young people while helping small businesses navigate global market dynamics. The ME-commercer initiative brought together a cross-sectoral partnership to develop sustainable strategies that matched local needs with global opportunities, creating a collaborative model that fostered innovation, entrepreneurship, and employability.

Project Outputs

ME-commercer developed and tested a new professional profile tailored to the specific needs of micro-enterprises: a market-savvy expert capable of connecting local businesses to global e-commerce opportunities. Through this, the project successfully designed and implemented a training programme aligned with real-world market demands. It encouraged young people with the skills required to support micro-enterprises in creating tailored marketing strategies and expanding their digital presence. As a result, the project enhanced the visibility and competitiveness of local businesses while simultaneously generating employment opportunities. By adopting a cross-sectoral and collaborative methodology, ME-commercer fostered an integrated approach to local economic development – combining education, business innovation, and social inclusion.
