Training Programme for Teachers

What is this programme about?

Building a whole-school approach to sustainability.

This 5-day programme supports teachers in moving beyond individual lessons and towards a whole-school approach to sustainability. Instead of treating circular economy and environmental awareness as isolated topics, you will learn how to weave them into the everyday life of the school – from classroom activities and subject integration to school-wide projects and partnerships with families and the local community.

The training provides strategies, tools, and inspiration for creating a learning environment where sustainable practices are visible, shared, and celebrated. Whether through waste reduction campaigns, student-led eco-projects, or cross-curricular initiatives, participants will learn how to make sustainability a natural part of school culture.

Who is the programme for?

This training is designed for primary, secondary, and VET teachers and principals who want to:

  • Embed sustainability and circular economy principles across the whole school
  • Lead or participate in eco-projects that involve multiple classes or the entire school
  • Strengthen collaboration with colleagues, students, and families around green practices
  • Take inspiration from innovative examples of schools that successfully adopted sustainable strategies
What will you learn from this programme?

By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the concept of a whole-school approach to sustainability and why it is effective
  • Plan and implement projects that go beyond the classroom and involve multiple subjects or year groups
  • Use participatory methods to involve students in decision-making and empower them to take action
  • Collaborate with colleagues to align teaching practices and share sustainability resources
  • Design activities that engage families and the wider community in school eco-initiatives
  • Evaluate the impact of sustainability actions and celebrate achievements through campaigns, exhibitions, and recognition systems
Why is this programme valuable?

This programme aims to make change not only in classroom teaching, but also in the wider school culture. It helps teachers build meaningful partnerships with colleagues, students, and families. Attendees will leave the programme with a portfolio of project ideas and ready-to-use templates to help foster sustainable habits and behaviours that last beyond a single lesson or school year.
